Comox Valley artist Judi Pedder has joined the fundraising drive for Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North’s Women Build campaign. Though she doesn’t plan to wear a hard hat or wield a hammer on Habitat’s Lake Trail Road construction site, Pedder hopes that the many hours she has spent, artist’s brush in hand, creating life-like paintings of landscapes and flowers will help provide funding for others to do so!
Pedder has planned an Open House at her home art studio, 317 Torrence Road, Comox, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m on Saturday, May 5th, and Sunday, May 6th. The art show will feature both framed and unframed original art on paper, canvas and silk, with 40-percent of the sales being donated to Women Build. There will also be prints, cards, and silk scarves available.
“The Women Build initiative is both a fundraiser and a volunteer recruitment event,” explains Pedder. “The fundraising part runs from now until June 30th; with 100 women being challenged to raise $100,000 in 100 days, to help build affordable housing for local families. The volunteer recruitment part is not about excluding men but, rather, encouraging women to come out and volunteer on the construction site; because every woman has the power to build community! When I heard about Women Build last month, I was inspired to offer my support.”
“This opportunity is open to everyone, and especially to those who agree that Habitat’s policy of a ‘hand up’ is the best way to help those who need a home,” concludes Pedder. “My goal is to raise at least $1,000 to donate to this excellent cause. Habitat representatives will be present to answer any questions about their current 10-unit development, as well as selling tickets for the ‘Creative Hands, Giving Hearts’ raffle. I encourage you to take a look at my website to view my work in advance, and then come along with your friends on May 5th or 6th to make a selection and help Women Build 2018 at the same time.”
