On April 22nd, 2017 Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North hosted Earth Day of Music. Featuring a daytime open mic and an evening dance with Time Well Wasted and Luke Blu Guthrie, we celebrated everything eco-friendly while raising over $5,000 to build homes with local families.
Thank you to our presenting sponsor, World Tree a carbon offset program and investment opportunity for people who want their money to work for them and do good in the process. We couldn’t have asked for a more suitable partner to help celebrate Earth Day 2017!
A shout out to Marine Harvest Canada for donating 100% of the proceeds from salmon burger sales to help Habitat, and to Tim Hortons for providing coffee and doughnuts by donation.
Thank also to the Comox Valley Lions Club for running the meat draw, and to Quality Foods in Comox for donating $300 worth of gift cards for the draw.
We are grateful for volunteers from Courtenay Rotary Club for running the bar, and for the several members of the Comox Valley Women’s Business Network for helping.
Our children’s activities were managed by Lake Trail Community Connections, thanks to sponsorship from TD Canada Trust in Comox.
Children from Queneesh Elementary School’s Montessori program operated the concession, sponsored by the good folks at Berwick Comox Valley.
We are especially grateful for the use of event tents, courtesy of Royal Lepage in the Comox Valley, and our media sponsors, The Goat and the Comox Valley Record.
Thanks to Gayle Bates from the Comox Strathcona Waste Management Program, for sharing her wisdom and insight on all things eco-friendly.
Thank you to the more than 50 local businesses and individuals who donated items for auction and door prizes.
Thank you to all the local open mic performers who came out to share their talents.
And thank you, most of all, to the amazing community of volunteers who have helped organize and present this event.
Funds raised from this event will go directly to our new Lake Trail Road project. We will start construction on 10 homes for local families this fall and we are very excited to build community with you!
