Reduce...Reuse...Recycle...ReStore

There are almost 50 ReStores in communities across Canada and the North Vancouver Island has two of them. Proceeds from the sale of donated items help to fund Habitat homes built in our area. ReStore accepts donations from individuals, retailers, contractors, manufacturers, and items salvaged from the deconstruction of buildings. Products are sold at less than half the manufacturer's suggested retail price.

While offering a service to the shopping public, ReStore does its part for the planet by diverting useable building materials and tools from the landfill. Shopping at the ReStore is fun and affordable. You can buy useful items at a reduced cost, while helping the environment and a Habitat project at the same time.

The ReStore has four principal goals:
1. Environment: being a good steward of valuable resources; preserving the landfill.
2. Economic: reducing landfill disposal costs for builders and other consumers.
3. Social: providing low-cost items for consumers.
4. Partnering: by generating income to aid the construction of habitat homes.

What can I purchase or donate?

You can donate reuseable building materials such as the items listed below. If you are unable to fit larger items in your car or truck, call your local ReStore to arrange a pick up. Retailers and manufacturers can donate end-of-the-line, scratch-and-dent, discontinued inventory, paint mis-tints and customer returns.

• Interior and exterior finishing materials (paint, siding, tiling, flooring, wallboard, wall paper, etc.)
• Plumbing materials
• Electrical wiring and related hardware
• Doors and windows
• Mouldings, mantles, fireplaces and other architechtural elements
• Vanities, cabinets, shelving
• Vents (floor, ceiling, return)
• Light fittings and mirrors
• Caulking, glues, sandpaper, tools, etc
• Construction materials (lumber, hardware, bricks, insulation, etc)
• Appliances and furniture
