For the superstitious, 13 is a number long associated with bad luck and unfortunate happenings. However, here at Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North (VIN), it’s quite the opposite.
Today–April 12th, 2017–we celebrate thirteen years of making homeownership attainable for families on Northern Vancouver Island. Our 13th year happens to be one of our most exciting to date.
Since 2004, Habitat VIN has built and sold 18 homes, serving 30 children and 20 families. Two major build projects starting this year will quickly propel that number. Our Lake Trail Road build, which is expected to begin in the fall, will eventually house 10 families. Our Campbell River build on Hilchey Road is already underway and will eventually be home to 11 units.
Additionally, we started up two other programs this year. ‘Invest in Yourself,’ a free comprehensive financial planning course, is helping us spread our impact providing stability and self-reliance to families beyond the scope of homeownership. Our pre-fabrication shop allowed us to pre-make the walls for our latest build.
Thank you to our volunteers, donors, staff, and homeowners for making these last 13 years so rewarding and impactful.
