The tree is up, carols are on the radio, and snow is even on the ground. I think you know what that means–Christmas is right around the corner! Here at Habitat we have been participating in various community initiatives to get into the spirit of the season.
Downtown Courtenay Christmas Parade
We were thrilled to receive the award for Best Overall Entry in the Downtown Courtenay Christmas Parade. Thank you to the Comox Valley Echo for donating a $1,000 advertising gift certificate as the prize. Heartfelt gratitude to Angela Zumbo from The Mortgage Centre for her continued support as our float sponsor. It may have rained (a lot!) on the parade but it was a great show of holiday spirit from the Downtown BIA and the community. The large gingerbread house with hard-hat gumdrops constructed for the float has been donated to Crown Isle Resort and will continue to be enjoyed as the ‘S’Mores Station’ in their Holiday Resort Walk.
We demonstrated our solidarity and support of other affordable housing and homeless initiatives in the Comox Valley by submitting an entry into the Crown Isle Resort 15th Annual Gingerbread Village Display. Proceeds from the event go to the Transition Society, Dawn to Dawn, the Boys and Girls Club and the Food Bank. Our entry is a (sort of) replica of the upcoming Lake Trail build that will provide affordable housing for 10 local families. Santa hats off to Corae Bracken and Roy Piper from Home SOULutions Remediation for their sponsorship, which covered the entry fee and cost of confectionary construction supplies.
To allow our staff to spend the holidays with their families, we will be closing our two ReStores from December 24th-January 2nd. Please consider making a donation and giving the gift of home this holiday season.
