Our Campbell River build is up and running, but we still need additional volunteers to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for two Campbell River families.
Whether you’re a construction professional or you’ve never picked up a hammer in your life, you can help on a Habitat build! Volunteering on a build not only gives you the opportunity to help a local family, but the chance to connect with other people, make new friends, and learn new skills.
We know build volunteering can feel like an intimidating process for those who have never done so before, so each Thursday from 1-2pm we will be holding a ‘Build Information Session’ in the garage right at the build site (477 Hilchey Road). No commitment necessary–just drop by and learn all you need to know about volunteering, including:
details on the scope of the project for upcoming weeks
a description of what a day in the life of a Habitat for Humanity build volunteer is like
description of the different volunteer roles
the opportunity to meet with our Build Volunteer Coordinator and get any questions you have answered
Until mid-May we will be lucky to have North Island College students on-site Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and we are seeking crew leaders to work with them for those shifts. Unskilled or beginner volunteers are most needed for Fridays and Saturdays until mid-May.
Are you already sold on volunteering? You can choose your own shift and easily register as a volunteer by following this link.
In addition to general construction volunteers, we need:
Crew Leaders: We are in need of volunteers with construction experience who have a willingness to mentor less experienced build volunteers.
Site Hosts: Not interested in construction, but still want to meet new people and help your community? We need site hosts to help us welcome, engage and feed our volunteers.
Drivers/runners: drive personal or Habitat vehicles, run errands, pick up food or construction supplies.
Site development: deal with cleaning up the site, fencing, removing material/deconstruct existing house on the property.
Please share this post and help us fill up our volunteer schedule! Build volunteering is a fun and rewarding hands-on experience where you can truly see the impact of your hard work.
If you have any questions about build volunteering, or if you need assistance scheduling your shift, contact our build volunteer coordinator Lynnette Hornung at firstname.lastname@example.org or (250)-830-1493 Ext. 223.
